Slovenian Railways uses the IT-3000 for ticket sales

The customer

The Slovenian Railways provides the inland and international transport of passengers and fright in Slovenia and into other European countries. In 2007 more than 16 Million passengers used the trains as means of transport and travelled more than 812.000 kilo meters. As Slovenia is at the intersection of two key international traffic corridors, the company is in a very good strategic position and can act as linking hub between East and West. Constant investment in the rolling stock and infrastructure help to safeguard the sustainability of the company. Slovenian Railways is in the area of ticket sales well prepared for the future challenges with a modern ticketing system and CASIO terminals for mobile on train sales.

Mobile ticketing with the IT-3000 speeds up the ticketing process

The use

In the trains of the Slovenian Railways the IT-3000 is used with an integrated contactless and contact smart card reader developed by CETRTA POT. Along with the sales of tickets that can be printed directly with the integrated printer, the inspection of e-tickets is possible. The CETRTA POT developed e-karta system harmonizes perfectly with the robust CASIO hardware and forms a complete and efficient system. Every conductor has an own terminal with GUI software, integrated thermo printer, magnetic card reader for cashless payment and smart card reader for inspection of e-tickets.
Interestingly, IT-3000 is also used at many smaller stations for ground ticket sales as a replacement for bigger PC-based POS. Once a day the collected information is transferred via cradle to the head office. CETRTA POT has optimized the existing CASIO cradles with Ethernet technology. This enables a faster communication between mobile terminal and back office and greatly simplify system maintenance by using existing TCP/IP WAN/LAN infrastructure. Thus ticketing transactions are reliably and on time transferred to the central database and are available for settlements, controlling and detailed passenger migration analysis.

Practical experiences
