The customer

The owner-managed family company Ebert + Jacobi Pharmazeutische Großhandlung GmbH & Co. KG has had its head offices in Würzburg for 125 years and today is the largest company in its industry. It has a total of 740 employees at six sites in Central and Southern Germany, who process up to 140,000 lines in orders from around 2900 pharmacies each day and provide a reliable supply to the regions with pharmaceutical products that are often vital. To stay true to its motto "Closer and further ahead", Ebert + Jacobi constantly invests in its logistics and uses innovative technologies to develop new solutions to further optimise its business processes.

The use

In order to be able to guarantee its customers an even faster and if possible completely error-free delivery of pharmaceutical products, the wholesaler Ebert + Jacobi continues to invest in the optimisation of its logistics processes. Together with the latest picking machines, which deal with around 50% of all order items, up to 40 employees pick another 35,000 lines paperless using the handheld DT-X7 scanner terminal from CASIO. The handheld terminal enables data to be recorded very quickly when picking, which makes work pleasant for the employees. In the case of manual picking - in order to avoid errors - each individual product is scanned as it is placed in the order box. The ergonomic shape of the CASIO DT-X7 and the practical arrangement of the scan buttons mean that both right and left-handed operators can work effortlessly at high speed. Using the new picking technology, the logistical processes at the pharmaceutical wholesaler have been enhanced even further. It has been shown that the DT-X7 barcode scanner has a very high reading quality, enabling even slightly damaged or faded labels to be read quickly and without any problems. Using the new picking technology, the logistical processes at the pharmaceutical wholesaler have been enhanced even further. The overall positive experiences gained by Ebert + Jacobi with the mobile data terminal from CASIO have led them to consider whether these devices could also be used in other logistics areas.

Practical experiences

"Our main concern, increasing customer satisfaction, has been supported by the introduction of ticketless picking", stressed Ralph-Dieter Schüller, Managing Partner of Ebert + Jacobi. "Our deliveries arrive on time and without any mistakes at the pharmacies, which is precisely in line with our quality expectations. And our error rate to date - which is already quite good - at 0.14%, has been lowered further to 0.06%. We are aiming for 0.04% and we are confident that we will be able to reach this level shortly."

DT-X7

The product DT-X7

The DT-X7 makes work easier and increases efficiency: the ergonomic hand-held terminal is equipped with a high-performance processor for demanding applications and can be used in a range of different network environments. Integrated IrDA and Bluetooth® interface included as standard with this terminal. The ability to read barcodes reliably and quickly is a basic prerequisite for efficient operations. The excellent performance of the DT-X7 in this area is a result of the implementation of a first-rate scanner combined with improved decoding algorithms. The ergonomic S-shaped design ensures convenient operation, and weighing in at just 145 grams the DT-X7 is also lightweight and manageable. Its casing is made from hard-wearing plastic, offering excellent protection against knocks and dropping. The data recording device is therefore perfectly suited for use in tough working environments.
